#Rarebonemobility

Dear participant,

We invite you to take part in a research study that will focus on movement patterns. If you accept to participate, we will ask you to fill in a questionnaire (online or in an interview, which one you prefer) and to walk for a specific time carrying your mobile phone and using a specific app for movement analysis and record your movement data while walking.

#Movementpatterns

The overall goal of this joint research project is to understand individual mobility and movements patterns among adults with a rare bone condition. The results may significantly contribute to rehabilitation in-home care for example and to support physical activity prescription.

Parts of the study

1. Questionnaire

The questionnaire will collect essential data related to physical activity and exercise habits and on perceived daily mobility.

2. Mobile phone app

Phyphox® is a free app for movement analysis and is available for Android and IOS phones. It has a high level of data security and can collect movement data. You will be asked to download the app into your phone and you will receive instructions on how to use it.

Participation

The questionnaire will be conducted online using Lime Survey platform or by an interview by one of the researchers, accordingly your preference. It will take approximately 10 minutes to respond.

For the movement analysis using Phyphox® app, you will be asked to activate the app and walk for 15 minutes with your own mobile phone in your LEFT pocket.

After you finish, you can save the data in the app and then send it to the researchers.

A total of 50 people is expected to participate in this study. Your participation is voluntary, and there is no cost to you. You will not receive any financial compensation for your participation.

If you have questions or doubts

If you have any further questions regarding this project, please do not hesitate to contact Sascha Fink or Inês Alves. Questions concerning your rights as a patient and participant in this questionnaire will also be answered. As soon as the general results of this questionnaire are available, you can also be informed about them if you wish, reaching out to the researchers (contacts in page 1).

There are 34 questions in this survey.

Data protection

Concerning the data collected and processed about you within the framework of this study, a fundamental distinction must be made between

  1. personal data by which you can be directly identified (e.g. name, date of birth, address, ...),
  2. pseudonymised (encrypted) personal data, in which all information that allows direct conclusions to be drawn about your identity is replaced by a code (e.g. a number). This means that the data can no longer be attributed to you personally without additional information and without disproportionate effort, and
  3. anonymised data can no longer be traced back to your person.

The encryption code is kept strictly from the encrypted data records and without access to the Internet. Only the researchers will have access to your non-encrypted data. The data is protected against unauthorised access. Data will be passed on to the Carinthian University of Applied Sciences for data evaluation in pseudonymised form. Only the anonymised data will be used for any publications.

All persons who have access to your encrypted and non-encrypted data are subject to the Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO) and the Austrian adaptation regulations in the currently valid version when handling the data.

In the context of the questionnaire, no transfer of data to countries outside the EU is intended.

You can revoke your consent to collect and process your data anytime. After your revocation, no further data will be collected about you. The data collected up to the time of cancellation will be deleted.

Based on the legal requirements, you also have the right to inspect the data concerning you and the possibility to correct it if you discover any errors.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint about handling your data with the Austrian data protection authority (www.dsb.gv.at).

One year after the end of the study (November 2024), the encryption data will be deleted, thus making it impossible to trace the data back to you personally.

If you have any questions about handling your data in this project, please contact the researchers first. If necessary, they can forward your request to the persons responsible for data protection at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences.
